Description

This hands-on workshop invites participants to explore the rich, tactile world of oil pastels through a series of guided exercises inspired by the vibrant collections of the de Young Museum. Blending drawing and painting techniques, participants will learn how to layer, blend, and build texture using oil pastels to create expressive, colorful works on paper. Participants will engage with museum artworks as sources of inspiration, drawing connections between historical and contemporary uses of color, composition, and gesture. Emphasis will be placed on personal expression, process, and experimentation rather than representational accuracy, making this workshop accessible to all skill levels. At the de Young Museum, sketching is allowed in the permanent collection with a pencil and a small (9 x 12 inch or smaller) pad. At the first class the class will meet at the lily pound outside of the de Young. Please do not be late for the first day of the class as important information and rules will be covered before going inside the museum. Please bring drawing materials to class. See materials list at sharonartstudio.org.
