Description
(Ages 6-15 years) The purpose of Level 5 is to teach swimmers how to coordinate and refine the main strokes previously learned and to introduce the butterfly. Level 5 will also introduce diving board skills and flip turns for all strokes. Prerequisite(s): Pass Level 4 or swim at least 25 yards using freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, elementary backstroke and sidestroke and demonstrate 15 yards of butterfly kick.To pass this course, swimmers should be able to swim at least 50 yards freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and elementary backstroke. Additionally, swimmers should perform the proper dives from the side of the pool and the diving board as well as successfully perform open wall turns and competitive turns for all four competitive strokes. If swimmers can complete these skills, we recommend they sign up for the Gilbert Parks and Recreation Swim Team.
